EPS mold: principle, application and manufacturing process?

1、 Overview of EPS mold

EPS (Expandable Polystyrene) mold is a molding tool specially used to produce foamed plastic products, which is widely used in construction, packaging, handicrafts and industrial fields. Its core function is to heat pre foamed EPS beads, causing them to expand, fuse, and solidify into specific shaped products in the mold cavity. EPS molds have become an indispensable process equipment in modern manufacturing due to their high efficiency, flexibility, and economy.

2、 Structure and Materials of EPS Mold

  Material selection

EPS molds are usually made of aluminum alloy or steel. Aluminum alloy has become the mainstream choice due to its excellent thermal conductivity, lightweight characteristics, and ease of processing, especially suitable for large-scale production; Steel is mostly used for high-precision or oversized molds.

Mold structure
Mold cavity design: directly determines the shape and surface quality of the final product
Pouring system: Control the filling and distribution of beads through steam channels and vacuum systems to ensure uniform foaming.
Exhaust structure: Reasonably set exhaust holes to avoid product defects caused by gas residue during the molding process.
Cooling system: Shorten the molding cycle and improve production efficiency.

3、 Production process of EPS mold

The production process of EPS products mainly consists of the following steps:
Pre foaming: EPS raw material beads are pre foamed by steam to expand their volume by 20-50 times, forming a porous structure.
Mold filling: Inject pre foaming beads into the mold cavity, and use steam heating to cause secondary expansion and fusion of the beads.
Cooling and shaping: Using a water or air cooling system to quickly solidify the product and reduce deformation.
Demoulding and retrieval: take out the finished product after opening the mold

4、 The core advantages of EPS molds

Efficient production: Short single molding cycle, suitable for batch manufacturing.
Lightweight design: EPS products have low density (15-30 kg/m ³), and the mold needs to balance structural strength and lightweight requirements.
Cost effectiveness: The mold has a long service life (aluminum alloy molds can reach more than 500000 times), and the raw material utilization rate exceeds 95%.
Strong adaptability: capable of producing complex geometric shapes (such as curved surfaces, hollow structures) and oversized products (such as building insulation boards).
Environmental characteristics: EPS material can be recycled and reused, in line with the trend of sustainable development.
